About Dr. Petropolis

Meet Dr. Petropolis

Dr. Arielle Petropolis, or ‘Dr. P’, is a licensed chiropractor and the founder of Petropolis Chiropractic & Therapeutic Care. Before deciding to open her own practice in November of 2023, she previously worked in HRM for five years in multidisciplinary clinic settings, with a deep appreciation for the collaborative healthcare model.

“I grew up in a healthcare-oriented family and with early exposure to a variety of sports. Personally, my appreciation for the importance of proper movement and function grew through a back injury I sustained while training for and competing at two Canada Winter Games as a member of the Nova Scotia squash team. After this experience, I knew that a proactive approach involving manual therapy was the route I wanted to pursue for my career so that I could help others achieve optimal health and live full lives.”

  • During her undergraduate studies at Dalhousie University, Dr. Petropolis had opportunities to work in various multidisciplinary clinic environments, where she learned more about manual therapy. She furthered her education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Ontario, Canada, where she received her Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree in 2019.

  • Dr. Petropolis believes that education and easing barriers to movement is important for patient-centered care. She has a special interest in neck and back pain, nerve-related pain, headaches, and jaw (TMJ) issues. In addition, Dr. Petropolis has a clinical passion for learning about protective injury mechanisms and tissue adaptation, and how they influence the body’s muscles, nerves, joints, and movement patterns. This includes finding and treating compensatory patterns related to injuries and educating people on how we can better educate and support patients through acute and chronic injury and stages of recovery.

Chiropractic treatments at Petropolis Chiropractic & Therapeutic Care can include manipulation (i.e. adjustments) and mobilization of the spine and extremity joints, neurofunctional acupuncture (also known as electroacupuncture), soft tissue therapy, education, and rehabilitation exercises.

Dr. Petropolis has recently added a therapeutic modality to the clinic called microcurrent, which can be offered to new and existing chiropractic patients as part of treatment as needed. Microcurrent treatment can also be offered as an independent service at the clinic to non-chiropractic patients specifically for scar tissues (promotion of newer scar healing and older scar tissue release), chronic pain modulation, and vagal nerve stimulation.

  • Throughout her studies at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Arielle completed the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program at McMaster University and received training in Mental Health First Aid.

Since obtaining her Doctor of Chiropractic (DC), Arielle continues to learn and further develop her clinical knowledge and manual skills for patient care with continuing education courses.

She has taken additional courses in assessing and rehabilitating functional movement patterning (Integrated Seminar Series, Dr. Jason Pajaczkowski), clinical neurodynamics level one techniques (Neurodynamic Solutions, Michael Shacklock), disc-related back pain (Dr. Philip Snell), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction (Dr. Jennifer Illes), chronic pain management (Dr. Demetry Assimakopoulos), pregnancy and post-partum related pain (GrowCo), instrument-associated soft tissue therapy (SMART Tools), concussion assessment and management (Complete Concussion Management).

Dr. P’s independent learning has also included diversity, equity, and inclusion training (Canadian Chiropractic Association) and she strives to make her private office an inclusive and welcoming treatment space for everyone. She has also learned about motivational interviewing and coaching techniques for healthcare providers (Oakley Coaching) which helps form the therapeutic alliance between herself and patients to find, set, and work towards therapeutic goals as part of a chiropractic plan of care.

Dr. Petropolis looks forward to continuing to help people achieve their goals related to health, recovery, performance, and feeling their very best!
